EU-SAFETY Conference

The main conference topic was “Mind the Gap – putting injury prevention research into practice,” and it featured over 50 lectures, interesting post-conference sessions, and exciting off-venue activities.

The European Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (EU-SAFETY) is the main conference targeted at preventing accidents and injuries in Europe. Every two years researchers and practitioners from Europe and other regions come together to share knowledge, experience and results of their work, being a great opportunity to meet with fellow colleagues and make new connections. This year, EU-SAFETY took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, on the 5th and 6th of October and highlighted the key priority areas of injury prevention, such as the safety of children & adolescents, older people, work-related injuries, vulnerable road users, and consumer products and services.

The iCREATE partners participating in this conference shared their research and practice results and made new valuable connections and engaged in new collaborations with fellows from other countries.  The EU-SAFETY Conference is an opportunity for us as project partners to hold one partners’ meeting and decide new directions for the project as well.  This year, seven members of the project participated with 9 oral presentations on injury and violence prevention.  The presentations focused on the data collected as part of the iCREATE experiential learning projects and joint research topics like pediatric injuries collected as part of injury registries,  , falls-related hospitalization among the elderly,  road traffic injuries (including e-scooters), and violence against healthcare workers.  This event underscored the iCREATE team’s unwavering commitment to advancing injury prevention and safety promotion.
