Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) are significant contributors to morbidity and mortality worldwide, with profound long-term consequences for individuals and healthcare systems. However, data on the incidence, characteristics, and outcomes of these injuries in Armenia remain limited, particularly concerning regional disparities between metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas. This retrospective study analyzed patient records from neurosurgical departments in Yerevan (Heratsi Hospital Complex) and Gyumri (Gyumri Medical Center) from 2021 to 2023, encompassing a total of 247 patients.

The study aimed to provide a detailed examination of TBI and SCI cases, focusing on the types of injuries, mechanisms of injury, and outcomes in different regions. Data collection was facilitated by an online tool, with questionnaires developed through a thorough literature review and existing trauma prevention studies. The findings revealed significant regional disparities, with non-metropolitan areas experiencing a higher incidence of severe TBI and SCI cases. This disparity may stem from delayed medical interventions and limited access to specialized care.

These findings highlight the urgent need for region-specific healthcare strategies in Armenia. Recommendations include the development of specialized trauma centers, improved emergency response systems, and enhanced public awareness programs.

This study addresses a critical gap in the understanding of TBI and SCI in Armenia, offering evidence-based recommendations to improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery. By tackling the identified regional disparities, the research seeks to contribute to more equitable and effective management of these debilitating injuries across the country.
