First Caucasus Region Course of Neuroepidemiology

Building Capacity in Violence Prevention Research through the iCREATE Project

The iCREATE project is dedicated to increasing research capacity in injury and violence prevention in Eastern Europe. One of our recent achievements was supporting the participation of students from our partner universities in the First Caucasus Region Course of Neuroepidemiology, held from December 9–13, 2024, in Yerevan, Armenia, organized by our project partner, Yerevan State Medical University

This intensive, 40-hour course provided a transformative opportunity for students to deepen their expertise in neuroepidemiology and develop research skills that contribute to violence prevention and public health efforts.

Trainees highlights

Giorgi Machavariani and Archil Kakhidze, master’s students from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia.

Dr. Eugeniu Mindrigan from Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy,  Republic of Moldova.

Course overview

The program covered a wide range of critical topics in neuroepidemiology, including:

Research Methodologies: Exploring types of surveys, analytical studies, and clinical trials.

Genetic Epidemiology: Understanding genetic factors in neuroepidemiological research.

Statistics: Strengthening analytical skills with a review of statistical concepts.

Diagnostic Tests & ROC Curves: Learning the principles and applications of diagnostic testing.

A Global perspective

Renowned professors from the USA, Italy, and Uruguay contributed to the course, offering diverse perspectives and expertise. The international environment fostered rich discussions and valuable networking opportunities for the participants.

Impact

By equipping trainees with advanced knowledge and research tools, the iCREATE project is empowering the next generation of researchers to address injury and violence prevention challenges effectively.

This initiative highlights the transformative potential of targeted training and collaboration across borders in building capacity for impactful research.
