Between June 30th and July 4th, 2025, a one-week Train-the-Trainer workshop on the “Violence and Injury Prevention” course was hosted in Cluj-Napoca, bringing together 15 participants from four project partner-countries: Romania, Armenia, Georgia, and Republic of Moldova.
The workshop gathered the national Principal Investigators (PIs) and instructors of the course, alongside the Romanian iCREATE team, for an intensive week of collaboration, planning, and curriculum development.
The primary goal of the workshop was to standardize the course format across all four countries, ensuring consistency in content, teaching methods, and learning outcomes. Each national team presented its current course syllabus, followed by facilitated sessions to identify common themes, address divergences, and co-create a joint syllabus.
Throughout the week, participants worked together to define:
Core thematic areas and weekly modules
Learning outcomes and assignment formats
Teaching tools, including shared case studies and evaluation methods
Accreditation processes and ECTS credit allocation
Options for hybrid or online delivery, with an eye toward accessibility and sustainability
The course will center around ten key topics agreed upon during the workshop:
Injury Epidemiology
Theories and Models: Haddon Matrix & Ecological Model
Injury Surveillance & Data Registries
Health Promotion
Advocacy & Policy
Child Injury
Workplace Injury
Road Traffic Injury
Gender-Based Violence
Unintentional Injuries
In addition to working sessions, the week included field visits, excursions, and planned meetings with the senior leadership of Babeș-Bolyai University, creating space for future institutional partnerships and recognition mechanisms. It was also a valuable opportunity to reconnect in person, strengthening the cross-country collaboration and shared vision for a high-quality, harmonized course in violence and injury prevention.
The week concluded with a dedicated Project Meeting, during which participants discussed next steps for iCREATE, including future opportunities to deliver the joint, cross-country course on Violence and Injury Prevention and to jointly develop additional courses in the field – such as a potential module on Global Road Traffic Safety.
